Agape SNOW DAY Policy

In 11 years, Agape has never missed providing a meal to our friends in Elizabeth.

  • Youth will only be permitted to help on a snow day with the permission of their parents, who should call Emily Wilmarth, Linnette Mercado or the WC in charge ahead of time to participate.
  • On any Wednesday when Westfield's School system is closed or dismissed early due to adverse weather conditions, the Agape Community Kitchen will operate according to the new SNOW DAY POLICY. Youth or adults who want to volunteer that day may meet in Westfield at 2:30PM to assemble take away meals for our Agape guests if both weather permits and it power is on at the church.
  • The take-away meal will be decided on by the WC in charge. Meal team members would only deliver food to the church that day if you deem it safe to do so. Please contact the WC in charge so they know if enough meals have been delivered to use for take-aways. If not enough food has arrived at the church, an alternative sandwich meal will be planned.
  • Once take-away meals are assembled, they will be packed up and driven to Elizabeth by the WC and several willing adult volunteers. No youth will be taken onsite to Elizabeth that day. The adults will hand out take-aways and hot cups of coffee to anyone who comes by for a meal.

We hope this new policy will eliminate any confusion over what you, your meal team or your children should do in bad weather.

Opportunity for Youths to Volunteer

God calls us to serve others in the name of Jesus Christ and this is your chance to do that very thing! Agape provides a weekly opportunity for young volunteers to serve others in our very own youth-led meal service at the 2nd Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth.

Agape's mission is two-fold. We serve the hungry people of Elizabeth by providing a generous weekly dinner in a loving, respectful and caring atmosphere. At the same time, we spread God's love and grace, create a community with our neighbors in Elizabeth and develop in our volunteers a life-long commitment to mission work.

Led by the Youth of our church, the Agape Community Kitchen serves a nutritious meal every Wednesday night to about 300 people. We also distribute coats, shirts, jeans, underwear and socks, blankets and toiletries from the “Clothing Closet”.

We welcome teens in 6th -12th grade to volunteer at Agape. Teenagers interested in volunteering who are not members of or associated with the Presbyterian Church in Westfield must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Please contact Kristin Pirich at kpirich@westfieldpc.org to make arrangements before volunteering

Adult Opportunities to Volunteer
The Agape Community Kitchen is always looking for new adult volunteers to assist behind the scenes. Here are some ways members of PCW or adults and groups from other churches in the Westfield area can help.

Join an Existing Meal Team or Start a New Team- Currently, Agape serves eight different meals and four different desserts which are rotated each week. Our meal and dessert teams cook in their homes and deliver the food to the Westfield Kitchen.

Become a Westfield Kitchen Cook - Every Wednesday two or three adult volunteers finish preparing the meals cooked by our meal teams. They arrive between 12:30-1:00 p.m. and finish by 2:30-3:00 p.m. each Wednesday.

Be a Shopper - Shoppers pick up pre-ordered groceries and supplies from Restaurant Depot in Union and deliver those items to the Presbyterian Church of Westfield on Wednesday morning.

Laundry - Our laundry volunteers pick up any dirty aprons and dishrags brought home from Elizabeth. The laundry is picked up from PCW, washed and returned to PCW anytime before the following Wednesday.

Write Grants Proposals - The Grant Committee develops grant projects, writes proposals and targets businesses for donations of services or merchandise to the mission.
