Rev. Dr. Sam Henderson, Temporary Pastor-Head of Staff

Rev. Dr. Sam Henderson (please call him Sam!) has served as solo pastor, associate pastor, pastor and head of staff, and interim pastor and head of staff in various congregations in eight presbyteries. He has most recently served Interim Pastorates in coastal Georgia at Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church in Savannah, and First Presbyterian Church in Brunswick. Three of his pastoral passions are preaching, working alongside staff and lay ministry colleagues, and hearing how people experience God during the time they are NOT “in church”! Sam and his wife Lane have been married for thirteen years, but between them, they have experienced many states of married and single life. Sam was a single young adult, then married to his first wife, Catherine, for 17 years, then a widowed single parent of two teenagers, and now married in a blended family with adult children. Lane was a single adult with challenging career and ministry opportunities, entertaining friends for years with continuous strings of blind date stories. Her story took quite a turn when she said “I do” to a husband, a son, a daughter, and a dog and cat all in one day! Sam and Lane function as a highly intentional team to make distance interim ministry possible for Sam. Lane works with a state-wide business publication in Georgia, and has her own team training and consulting business.

Christine Treger, Director of Faith Formation

Christine joined our staff in August, 2013. Mrs. Treger shared the joy she feels by working with youth. “The moments of transformation children have are beyond exciting. Their enthusiasm is infectious.” At Easter time when she was teaching a lesson on the ascension of Christ and one child asked, “Well, where did Jesus go?” another answered without skipping a beat, “That’s easy – in our hearts!” She explained that children can “intuitively explain things better than adults.”Her goal at the church is simple. “I want both parents and children to know that they can be comfortable here. It is a place where they are cared for and nurtured.”
Mrs. Treger holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and a Masters of Divinity. She has experience as a Minister of Education, Youth, and Families and served as a Chaplain at the Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ.
