Rotary Backpack Program

While the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program provide healthy food to eligible children, these same children may not have enough food to eat in their homes during the weekend, Teachers regularly observe children coming to school hungry because they were not getting enough to eat on Saturdays and Sundays.  The Rotary Club of Westfield collects backpacks and food items to put into them.  These backpacks are then distributed to school children in our community who live with food insecurity.

We hope to be able to fill each backpack with enough snacks, drinks and easy prep meals to sustain a child through the weekend when no food may be available at home.  PCW’s collection will begin on Sunday, March 1st, and end on Tuesday, March 31.

Rotarians will join our C.O.W. children on Wednesday, April 1st, to fill the backpacks.

Items we are collecting include shelf-stable, individual size:

  • Ramen Noodle Soup
  • Cheese and Crackers
  • Cereal
  • Canned fruit
  • Macaroni and Cheese (microwaveable)
  • Juice boxes
  • Raisins
  • Granola Bars
  • Shelf-stable milk

Thank you for your generosity!
